Journey of Faith Through Music

Aaron Nelson grew up as a pastor’s son in north-central Louisiana. Because his father was called to pastor different churches throughout Aaron’s childhood, his family moved several times, and his early years were spent across Louisiana, Arkansas, and Kentucky. Though the places he called home may have changed, two things remained constant in his life—church and music.

Some of Aaron’s earliest memories of music are sitting in his mom and dad’s room, listening together to old Southern Gospel quartets on the radio. Those songs made a lasting impression on him and began a lifelong love for Southern Gospel music, church music, and the great hymns of the faith.

At just eight years old, Aaron sang his first solo in church—and he never looked back. Singing quickly became more than something he enjoyed; it became part of who he was.

Aaron went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Vocal Music from Warner University in Florida before returning home and spending time working in the church. A performer at heart, he was involved in numerous musical and performance opportunities throughout high school and college, continually developing the gifts God had placed within him.

His love for music eventually took him on the road. Aaron traveled full-time for nearly two years with the mixed quartet Pure Heart and later spent almost three years traveling with the all-male trio Inheritance. Those years gave him valuable experience in ministry and performance while strengthening his desire to communicate a message through music.

But for Aaron, music has never been only about singing.

He has always loved arranging and structuring songs, finding ways for melodies, lyrics, harmonies, and musical moments to work together to stir the heart of the listener. He enjoys the entire creative process—from hearing songs begin to take shape to listening for those special phrases and “hook lines” that can become the foundation for a new song.

What excites him most, however, is not simply seeing a song come together.

It is seeing what God can do with that song once it reaches someone who needs its message.

Like so many others, Aaron’s life has not always been perfectly put together. There was a season when he found himself in deep despair, feeling as though he were completely alone and uncertain of what came next.

But it was in that place that he discovered a truth that would change the direction of his life:

When you come to the place where God is all you have, you begin to realize that God is all you need.

That realization brought Aaron to a place of complete surrender. Rather than simply using his gifts for music, he wanted those gifts—and his entire life—to be fully surrendered to the will and purpose of God.

His favorite Scripture, and the verse he desires to be the testimony of his life, is Galatians 2:20:

“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me…”

Those words capture the heart behind Aaron’s ministry. His desire is that every song he sings, every arrangement he creates, and every message he helps share would point beyond the performer and directly to Jesus Christ.

Today, whether singing, arranging, writing, leading worship, or ministering alongside Jamie, Aaron’s greatest joy is seeing God use music to reach people right where they are.

For him, success is not simply measured by a stage, an audience, or how many people hear a song. The most exciting part is seeing a message connect with someone, watching God touch a heart, and knowing that through a song, a life can be changed.

And through every chapter still to come, Aaron’s prayer remains simple:

May there be less of Aaron—and more of Christ.

Jamie Ingram Nelson grew up in a small rural town in north-central Louisiana as the only girl among four brothers. Raised on a farm, she learned the value of hard work from an early age through daily chores and family life. She worked alongside her brothers and dad outdoors while also helping her mom with the many responsibilities inside the home. Even then, there was something about Jamie that stood out—she carried a little sparkle of her own. Her creativity, sense of style, and artistic spirit were evident from the very beginning.

As she grew, Jamie’s God-given talents began to emerge through her love of drawing, writing, and creative expression. Over time, that creativity developed into a special gift for writing lyrics and poetry. Words became a way for her to express what was in her heart and, eventually, a way to share messages of faith, hope, healing, and encouragement with others.

Jamie’s journey, however, has not been without difficult chapters. Throughout her life, she has faced battles, disappointments, heartache, and hardships that could have caused her to give up. Instead, she has chosen to place each experience in God’s hands and allow Him to use it as part of her testimony.

The very things that once brought pain have deepened her faith and become part of the inspiration behind much of her writing. Because Jamie has walked through difficult seasons herself, she writes with experience, compassion, and understanding. Her desire is to reach people who may feel discouraged, rejected, broken, or alone and remind them that God has not forgotten them and their story isn’t over.

One Scripture that beautifully reflects Jamie’s heart and testimony is Zechariah 9:16 (NASB1995):

“And the LORD their God will save them in that day
As the flock of His people;
For they are as the stones of a crown,
Sparkling in His land.”

These words—“the stones of a crown, sparkling in His land”—hold special meaning for Jamie. The sparkle that has always been part of her personality now represents something far greater: a life surrendered to God and a desire to reflect His light through the gifts He has given her.

Today, Jamie has fully surrendered those gifts to the Lord. Through songwriting, music, and ministry, she uses her creativity to glorify God and encourage others. Her lyrics are more than words on a page; they are often shaped by lessons learned through real-life experiences and by witnessing God’s faithfulness through every season.

Jamie believes that God can turn a trial into a testimony, pain into purpose, and the difficult chapters of our lives into something He can use to reach someone else.

Her prayer is that every song she writes and every message she shares will point people toward Jesus, offer hope to those who need it, and remind others that they are precious in God’s eyes—like stones in His crown, sparkling in His land.
